Conservation Legacy Announces Appointment of Chief Executive Officer

For Immediate Release: Conservation Legacy Announces Appointment of Chief Executive Officer

Durango, Colorado | November 5, 2018

The Conservation Legacy Board of Directors today announced the appointment of Susan Cimburek as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.

“Conservation Legacy is recognized for its work to advance the highest standards in youth development and natural resource conservation and restoration. I am proud to join with this dedicated team of leaders, staff and corps members to fulfill this critical mission. I’m also happy to return to my home state of Colorado and to contribute to the Durango community and the other communities Conservation Legacy serves,” states Cimburek.

Cimburek takes the organizational reins from interim Co-CEOs David Critton and Amy Sovocool, who ably led the organization through a period of continued rapid growth and development since June 2017.

“After an intensive national search, the Board is extremely pleased that Susan has accepted our offer and will bring her substantial talents to manage the federation of programs that make up our high-impact organization,” noted Andrew O. Moore, Chair of the Conservation Legacy Board of Directors. “Susan brings key skills to the CEO role, including partnership formation and organizational development.”

Conservation Legacy provides support for local conservation service organizations under the leadership of a national organization, delivering high quality programming in communities across the country to produce enduring impact through local action. In 2017, Conservation Legacy engaged over 2,000 youth, young adults, and veterans in conservation, restoration and community development projects and contributed 1.1 million hours of service to public lands.

Conservation Legacy programs—Arizona Conservation Corps, Conservation Corps New Mexico, Great Appalachian Valley Conservation Corps, Southeast Conservation Corps, Southwest Conservation Corps, Stewards Individual Placement Program and Preserve America Youth Summit—engage participants on diverse conservation and community service projects that provide opportunities for personal and professional development and meet the high priority needs of public land managers and community partners. Working in close collaboration with partners across the country, Conservation Legacy advances goals of increasing opportunities in conservation, stewardship, national service and workforce development.
